Our Story

DiversiTea Divas began when two friends, both new attorneys, found themselves navigating workplaces without the guidance they had hoped for in law school. They invited seasoned professional women to an informal tea gathering with undergraduate students who were seeking insight on careers in law, education, and public service. Demand grew quickly.

In 2019,  Michelle Craig transformed the original tea gatherings into a nonprofit and launched DiversiTea Divas’ flagship event, the Legal Tea Talk. The shutdown caused by COVID 19 in 2020 and 2021 halted in person events, yet the pause let the leadership team design a structured program around the Legal Tea Talk model. When activities resumed  the organization introduced a full year mentorship track that paired students with practicing professionals and added workshops on networking and financial literacy.

In 2024 the Legal Tea Talk  venue could seat only thirty three students, but more than seventy applied. Twenty-three  of those applicants, drawn from Dillard, Xavier, Tulane, Loyola, and other Louisiana campuses, completed the full year mentorship. Since 2023 DiversiTea Divas has placed mentees in direct paid internships, providing more than 120 hours of compensated professional experience.

DiversiTea Divas has now served over one thousand young women, guided by more than thirty mentors in law, education, human resources, finance, and engineering. Participants have never paid an admission fee, and attorney mentors earn continuing legal education credit, ensuring mutual benefit for students and professionals alike.
